June 2018 Page 1 of 7 Revision 1 Applicability: Bugatti Chiron VIN range : Contact your Bugatti regional service manager Market Region: All Introduction: One subcomponent of the seat airbag could be assembled incorrectly. Description: Seats which are fitted to certain cars only must be removed and sent to Bugatti Molsheim for inspection: This document describes the process to remove, ship and re-install the seats following the inspection. During the action described in this document, the vehicle MUST NOT be released to the customer. The vehicle can only be driven within the workshop facility at speeds below 15mph (20 km/h) until completion of the action. Lower both door windows to their half way position 2. Driver’s seat: a. Move the seat into the rear upper-most position and unscrew the front fastening bolts -on the bottom of the seat rails. b. Slide the seat into the forward top-most position and unscrew the rear fastening bolts on the bottom of the seat rails. 3. Repeat “step 2” for passenger seat 4. Interrupt the electrical power supply in the vehicle, to do this plug in the battery disconnect plug in the luggage compartment (as described in official Workshop Manual, page 25 onwards) 5. Disconnect the wiring harnesses under the driver’s seat (depending on vehicle equipment, the number of connectors will vary ) 6. Carefully remove the seat from the interior. (Protection should be added on the table to prevent any damage to vehicle interior parts) 7. Secure the seats using the provided packaging as shown in the picture below. Fit the seat(s) on designated area(s) and secure using supplied screws and adaptors c. Install seat protection d. Repeat previous step for the 2 other layers f. Install box cover and strap it to the base palette 8. Prepare shipment to Molsheim Technical Bulletin 18-06-002BUGC Seat AIR Bag Check June 2018 Page 6 of 7 Revision 1 9. Inspection report has to be submitted via technical BCMS ticket. a. Including VIN b. Inspection date c. Seats Serial Number sent for inspection d. All pictures requested in previous steps Your Bugatti regional service manager will inform you about an estimated delivery date 10. Upon receipt of the seat/s following inspection at Molsheim, Check if the new seat has been checked and approved (Green DOT must be present as shown on picture below) 11. Reinstall removed seats into the car as described in the official workshop manual Replace all screws M8x25: (N 106 893.01) Tightening Torque 30Nm (4 per seats) 12. Remove the battery disconnect plug ONLY once both seats are fitted and connected 13. Reprogram driver and passenger windows, move the window once to the upper stop position and press switch up again, then move to the lower stop position 14. Using the ODIS diagnostic tester, check for any airbag fault codes, delete if necessary 15. Restore customer seat settings 16. Learn steering angle sensor by driving a distance of approximately 50 meters (165 feet) between a speed of 10 and 20 km/h (6 to 12mph) 17. Clear diagnostic fault codes 18. SAFETY RECALL – Seat Manufacture Dear Partner, This is to inform you that Bugatti has detected a potential safety defect, which relates to certain 2016, 2017 and 2018 model year Bugatti Chiron vehicles. The Authorities have been informed, but we wanted to inform you personally. We require you to contact your customers to make an appointment. The list of affected vehicles is attached, please send an official letter (sample customer letter attached) and follow-up with a phone call to make the appointment. We would also ask you to use the attached letter to inform the customers with Chiron’s that are not affected. What is the issue? Due to a defect in the production process of a supplier for the side airbag of the Chiron, the side airbag could in certain conditions not deploy properly. As a result, the side airbag could not fulfil its protection function in the case of a crash. What needs to be done? How long will the repair take? The seats of your car have to be checked, They will be sent to the Bugatti factory to carry out the inspection. Depending on the result, the seat will be sent back to your car or the side airbag module will be replaced. The 2 seats need to be removed for inspection. The inspection will take about four weeks (Mainly due to logistics and customs timing). A technical bulletin (18-06-002BUGC) has been created and is available for you to download from the Partner portal along with the FAQ’s. Even though the fill time and deployment of the airbag were correct according to the specification. (03/20/2018). Further investigations have shown a wrongly assembled gas generator heat shield (04/24/2018), which is according to the supplier, related to a particular worker.(04/25/2018) Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Vehicles will be recalled and customers will receive a letter. Our Flying Doctors will also inform customers individually by phone/then e-mail to arrange an appointment to have the vehicles fixed. Identified seats will be sent to the factory for a non destructive check. If any seat is found to have a wrongly installed heat shield, the complete seat will be sent to the seat supplier for replacement of the side airbag module. Official Bugatti partners are able to remove the seat from the car and install them back after receiving the tested seat. Bugatti will cover the costs involved for the full logistic and repair (no time or KM/MI limit). How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Every tested seat will have a green dot on the airbag label underneath assuring the heat shield has been checked for its position or the side module airbag has been replaced by the supplier. Partners will be asked to double check for the presence of the green dot on the label during reinstallation of the seat. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : After the first side airbag module was found during the internal test, all other production cars in our hands have been completely checked.
