Bugatti Automobiles SAS has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2021/2022 model year BUGATTI Chiron Pur Sport vehicles worldwide. Our records show that you are the owner of a vehicle potentially affected by this safety concern. What is the issue? The rear tires may have a condition, that limits the usage period to 4,000 kilometers or 2,500 miles and 2 years from the tires production date (relevant DOT imprint); whichever comes first. If the tires are used beyond their service limit, cracks could form in the tires, which could result in rapid loss of tire pressure and increase the risk of a crash. What will we do? To correct this defect, your authorized BUGATTI Partner will replace the rear tires when they reach 3,000 kilometers or 1,875 miles or 1.5 years (relevant DOT imprint) of usage. This work will take approximately two (2) days to complete and will be performed free of charge. Should you reach the above mentioned criteria (mileage or usage period) again, your BUGATTI Partner will replace the rear tires free of charge again, until new and improved tires become available, which will match the tire change criteria as described on your vehicle’s owner manual. What should you do? Should your vehicle have already reached the above mentioned limitation – to avoid any potential issue – BUGATTI recommends that the car shouldn’t be driven until the rear tires have been replaced. You will have to arrange pick up of the car from the customer and transport it to your Dealership. All tires needs to be replaced on the vehicle regardless if the tires are defective or not. The current rear driving tires must be replaced when they reach 3000km or 1.875 mls or 1.5 years (relevant DOT imprint) of usage. Should they reach the above mentioned criteria (mileage or usage period) again, you must replace the current rear driving tires free of charge again, and continuously so, until new and improved tires become available, which will match the tire change criteria as described on the vehicle’s owner manual. Please note: The customer has a set of Pur Sport Aluminium rims delivered with their vehicle, after which, a set of validated, Pur Sport Magnesium rims were delivered. These conditions have not been seen in the field. Further supplier analysis results November 26, 2021: Supplier provided recommendations for further investigation after it was noted that additional production weeks could be impacted. Supplier notified that tire mileage should be reduced based on the analysis of the initial two tires. The number of affected vehicles overall is 9 within the United States. The vehicles affected are 2021-2022 Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport vehicles. Production Dates : APR 27, 2020 – OCT 17, 2021 VIN Range 1 : Begin : VF9SC3V31MM795008 End : VF9SC3V35NM795031 Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : On one prototype Pur Sport vehicle, some cracks have been observed. Pur Sport tires are specific to model line. The tire is neither defective nor noncompliant, however a condition needs to be managed. FMVSS 1 : 110 – Tire selection and rims FMVSS 2 : 139 – New pneumatic radial tires for light vehicles Description of the Safety Risk : Rapid loss of tire pressure could lead to loss of vehicle control Description of the Cause : The root cause of the tire cracks are not able to be identified by the supplier at this time. The propagation of such cracks is unknown and only observed above 2500 miles. During tire analysis, the supplier assured Bugatti that any tire that has less than 2,500 miles and is less than two years old (DOT) should have no elevated propensity for bead area crack propagation relative to a normal, properly maintained tire. Therefore, those tires would not present a safety risk. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : The vehicle tire pressure monitoring system warning lamp would illuminate in the instrument cluster. Immediate report/inquiry to the supplier, about the irregularity on the Pur Sport tires and what production run of tires are affected. September 29 2021: Supplier stated that only Prototype Manufacturing Slots DOT 19/20 and 26/20 sould be affected The Manufacturing Slots DOT 41/20 used for Supplier and Bugatti Approval is not affected. No further Action to be taken according to Supplier Further supplier analysis results November 26 2021: Supplier provided recommendations for further investigation after it was noted that additional DOT weeks could be impacted. Supplier notified that tire mileage should be reduced based on the analysis of the initial two tires Final analysis review with Supplier December 07 2021: Supplier recommended a limit on tire mileage and max usage age of the tires to prevent crack propagation as seen with the initial two tires. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 21V-984 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : All Pur sport vehicle delivered will get new rear tires that are less than 2 years and 0 miles. After the replacement, the customer will be instructed to replace the tires before reaching the 1875 miles or 1,5 years. Supplier is working on a new rear tires that will take into account the results of the current root cause analysis ongoing. When these tires will be available, all Pur sport car will get a set of tires. All rear tires replacement will be covered by Bugatti until the new specification set of rear tires will be mounted. Transport of the car for the first tire replacement will be also covered How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy tires will reset the tires to zero mileage, for more precise tracking of tire usage history, and to assure that the subsequent use of the tires on the vehicle does not exceed the technical limitation advised by the tire manufacturer. Prior to and at time of tire replacement, it will be relayed to customer to make sure that the rear tire stay within the suggested life range of less than 2,500 miles or 2 years, whichever comes first. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Production cars have been stopped for delivery. (12/09/2021). Further root cause analysis is ongoing. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Vehicles will be recalled and customers will receive a letter via mailing address.
