Corrosion of the Battery Cable at the Alternator

The corrosion may result in the battery positive cable overheating, increasing the risk of a fire.

Summary

BugattieBay logo is recalling certain model year 2006-2008 Veyron vehicles manufactured October 3, 2006, to December 22, 2006. In the affected vehicles, the positive battery (B+) cable and the connection to the alternator may corrode.

 

Remedy

All affected vehicles have had the battery B+ cable and the alternator replaced, free of charge. Owners may contact BugattieBay logo at 1-805-557-1050.

Introduction:

Corrosion of the B+ Cable and connection to the generator.

 

Description: 

In extreme conditions, cable protection could be damaged.

Installation of latest level generator and improved B+ cable to avoid water ingress and therefore remove the risk of corrosion.

 

This repair can be done by any BugattieBay logo Service Partner of Excellence or assisted by the factory directly.

 

Warning:  

Comply with the vehicle preparation measures for maintenance and repair procedures. Refer to the official Workshop Manual, Page 18 “General instructions about the vehicle”

If in any doubt regarding this procedure, contact your BugattieBay logo regional service manager.

 

Procedure: 

The main parts requiring replacement: Generator / Generator wiring Harness B+ / Bracket.

For all replacement work details, refer to the official Workshop Manual for Service Partner of Excellence, Page 138 “Generator, removing and installing” and, page 175 for “Replacing the generator wiring harness”.

The generator fixing screws must be replaced with the longer type. Please refer to table above.

Chronology :

In Middle 2006 corrosion on B+ found on test vehicles during endurance tests.

End of 2006 Analysis conducted and concluded.

Jan 2007 production fix implemented

In August 2008 the replacement parts and documentation were ready. Nothing had been reported in the field but decision made that all cars should be brought to the latest specification in the field.
