Seat Recliner Brackets Improperly Welded – 2017-2018 Bugatti Chiron

Dear gentlemen, This is to inform you that Bugatti has detected a potential safety defect, which relates to certain 2017 and 2018 model year Bugatti Chiron vehicles. The Authorities have been informed, but we wanted to inform you personally. Although there have been no vehicles delivered by Bugatti Scottsdale and which are affected by this campaign but should you have a customer contact you, please enter the VIN on the Bugatti.com website to determine if the vehicle is affected. Additional information can also be found on the Bugatti Partner Portal, including the instructions for inspecting the seat. What is the issue? The backrest frame of the driver and passenger seats could potentially be welded incorrectly. This manufacturing defect could risk the separation between the 2 parts of the seat/s. Both the driver’s and passenger’s seat could be affected. What will you need to do? How long will the repair take? A visual inspection of the seat is required and if a defect is found, replacement of the seat/s will be necessary. The 2 seats need to be removed for inspection. This can take up to 3.5 hours. A technical bulletin (17-11-001BUGC) has been created and is available for you to download from the Partner portal along with the FAQ’s. Further investigation determined that the seat recliner bracket welding was not complete. All other new production cars at the factory were checked. On Oct 27, 2017, the supplier implemented an improvement in production and added a mark on the weld for newly manufactured seats. Between October 2017-November 2017, Bugatti conducted an investigation, ultimately concluding that affected vehicles had been released to the field/sent to dealers and that a safety-related defect existed. The topic was then presented to VW Group APS and agreed upon at a meeting on Nov, 22 2017. The recall report was submitted to the NHTSA Nov, 29 2017. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : “Vehicles will be recalled and customers will receive a letter. Our Flying Doctors will also inform customers individually by phone/then e-mail to arrange an appointment to have the vehicles fixed. Both seats will be checked for proper welding of the recliner.
